In The Forest, server difficulty settings define the intensity and complexity of your survival journey. Server hosts can fine-tune key gameplay parameters—such as enemy strength and aggression, resource scarcity, and environmental hazards—to create a custom multiplayer experience tailored to players’ preferences. Whether you’re looking for a calm, exploratory adventure with friends or a brutal test of survival instincts, difficulty customization empowers server hosts to create experiences ranging from relaxed and cooperative to fiercely challenging and immersive.
Adjusting World Difficulty on your The Forest Server
1. Log in to your Game Control Panel.
2. Before making any modifications, stop the server from running by clicking the Stop button.
3. Navigate to the Configuration Files section.
4. On the Configuration tab, look for server.cfg file. Click the Config Editor.
5. On the Config Editor, look for Difficulty and change based on your preferred difficulty.
6. After editing, click Save to apply the changes.
If you want to change the server name directly on file instead of using our UI, you can click the Text Editor beside the Config Editor and do the changes from there.
In this way, you are ensured that any custom changes that you made like mods and custom scenarios will be saved and not be affected by the Config Editor preset.
