This guide explains how to set up SourceMod admin access on your Left 4 Dead 2 server, allowing you to manage players and server settings in-game using the admin menu.

Requirements

Before starting, make sure the following are installed via your game panel:

SourceMod

MetaMod:Source

Step 1: Install SourceMod and MetaMod

Open your game server panel.

Install both SourceMod and MetaMod:Source from the available mod installer section.

Wait for the installation to complete.

Step 2: Locate the Admin Configuration File

Open your File Manager.

Navigate to:

left4dead2/addons/sourcemod/configs/
 

Open the file:

admins_simple.ini
 

Step 3: Add Yourself as an Admin

At the bottom of the file, add your admin entry using the format below:

 
"Your In-Game Name or SteamID" "flags" "password (optional)"
Example:
 
"STEAM_0:1:12345678" "z" ""
 

"z" gives full administrator access

Using SteamID is recommended for stability

Step 4: Save and Restart the Server

Save the file after editing.

Fully restart your server to apply changes.

Step 5: Enable the Admin Menu In-Game

Open your game console using:

~
 

Enter the command:

bind j sm_admin
 

Press Enter.

This binds the admin menu to the J key.

Step 6: Access the Admin Menu

Join your server.

Press J in-game.

The SourceMod admin menu will appear. Use it to perform admin actions.
